VariabL — The Team

VariabL is an international team of blockchain researchers and engineers, legal experts, experienced designers, and business and finance professionals.

We share a common taste for hard challenges, a desire to create value and a passion for experimenting on the edges, backed by a rigorous scientific culture.

VariabL originates from ConsenSys, a leader in global blockchain innovation, which has provided us with unique support and resources. The leading team formed in 2016 around a common goal: bringing financial stability to decentralized applications so that they can compete with centralized ones.

Our skillsets are split into four main teams, working hand-in-hand:

• Our research team makes sure we are building the most efficient and secure product possible. The team spends its time researching improvements to our financial systems, prototyping them, and testing feasibility, security and scalability.
• Our product team maintains our alpha product. They are focused on two things: building a competitive user experience by increasing our learnings and shortening our iteration cycles, and integrating the results from our research.
• Our business team takes care of our global commercial strategy and development, ensuring that we interact with our community in a proper way, transmit our values correctly, and communicate in a striking and understandable manner.
• Our legal team is ensuring compliance with financial regulators. They are exploring a way to satisfy classic financial regulations of derivative products within the innovative context of the blockchain.

We are determined to build the foundation of a trustless economy to enable growth of the whole ecosystem and foster mass adoption of cryptocurrencies.

Our vision led us to work on VariabL, the first derivatives trading platform built on Ethereum. VariabL uses blockchain technology and smart contracts to improve derivatives markets and offer decentralized financial products that are highly secure and efficient. We will develop the biggest ecosystem of traders, individuals, and decentralized applications that would benefit from these new financial markets.

Our Team members:

Hadrien CHARLANES

Co-Founder — Executive, Product

Hadrien has a Physics and Mathematics background and a Financial Engineering degree from France. He also studied Entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley. In 2013, he started experimenting with cryptocurrencies.

He experimented with smart contracts and joined ConsenSys and the Ethereum ecosystem before the first live release of Ethereum (Frontier) was launched. He organized the first technical Ethereum workshops in France.

He is now working to build decentralized applications and the tools that will bring their benefits to everyone.

Hadrien researched and prototyped simple stable tokens on Ethereum before founding VariabL.

Vincent ELI

Co-Founder — Technology and Research

Vincent is a blockchain pioneer, an experienced developer, and a researcher in decision and game theory. He pursued his Ph.D. at HEC Paris after graduating from Polytechnique and the Paris School of Economics.

Vincent teaches statistics and economics to undergraduate students at HEC Paris. He has also worked in sustainable development and finance, and led several associative projects.

Vincent developed one of the first fully-fledged live dapp games on Ethereum. Vincent is also an advisor to several cryptocurrency projects and performed security audits for Digix, Cofound.it among others.

Vincent is a co-founder and lead developer of VariabL, managing research and technical developments.

Simon POLROT

Co-Founder — Legal, Operations

Simon joined VariabL as a Chief Operating Officer and is currently managing product structuring, legal, finance and communication. Before that, he was a lawyer for 6 years.

He is the founder of Ethereum France, writer of more than 70 articles on Ethereum and Vice-President of Association Ethereum, a French non-profit committed to evangelizing Ethereum with more than 150 active members.

In his former career, he worked on the legal status of cryptocurrencies and blockchain use cases. He still works with La Chaintech, a French non-profit, helping lawmakers to create appropriate legal frameworks for cryptoassets, smart contracts & DAOs.

Claire PION

Legal

Claire graduated with a Masters of International Law from the Sorbonne University and a Masters of Business Law from Assas University.

After several working experiences in law firms and in the French parliament, she worked for BNP Paribas Hong Kong in the legal department, where she developed a strong interest in financial derivatives.

Over the years she has developed an expertise in blockchain technology and Ethereum, specifically the technology’s impact on financial markets and related legal issues. Claire joined the VariabL team in early 2017, and since then has focused on legal matters, especially the legal incorporation of VariabL’s products.

Nathan SEXER

Marketing, Business Lead

Nathan studied corporate finance at ESCE Paris and innovation & entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley.

Over the past six years, Nathan has worked at major asset management institutions in Europe and on a wide variety of projects around the world, including fintech startups. He has been involved in fintech on a global scale, organizing hackathons, working as a fintech analyst, advising blockchain companies, and building and mentoring several ventures.

Nathan is applying his expertise in fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies while leading business and marketing functions within the VariabL team. He wants to take blockchain technology and applications to the next level, evangelizing VariabL products and democratizing Ethereum’s tremendous potential.

Vlad TODIRUT

Art Director

Vlad is a graphic designer who has spent the past 10 years perfecting his art. Whether he needs to draw the perfect logo or to create an entire concept for a new project, you can depend on one thing: he will get to the very core of the idea and build a complete visual identity, starting with the basics and paying extra attention to the finishing touches, the small but oh-so-important details.

Having studied photography, he is vastly aware of how much an image conveys, and uses his acumen to put stories and histories into visuals. After working on projects for major brands such as Heineken, McDonalds, and Ikea, he came to VariabL/ConsenSys with a desire to learn more and to perfect his skills in a different environment.

Hrishikesh HUILGOLKAR

Blockchain Engineer

Hrishikesh held positions as a developer, data scientist, and product manager before falling in love with Ethereum and decentralized technologies. He’s been building dApps on Ethereum and Quorum for over a year.

Hrishikesh is proud to be a member of the winning hackathon team for Blockchain India Week and to be a recipient of an award given by Vitalik himself.

He joined VariabL as a developer in June 2017 and has been working on Ethereum smart contract development and technical research.

Charlotte ELI

Quantitative Analyst

Charlotte holds a Master’s Degree in Financial Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and an Advanced Master’s degree in Data Sciences/Machine Learning from Telecom ParisTech.

She has strong experience in financial markets, having worked at various positions in several major banks, brokers and hedge funds across the UK, France and Switzerland. She worked as an buy-side equity analyst identifying investment opportunities and as a quantitative analyst developing quantitative portfolio management tools based on machine learning algorithms.

She joined VariabL in mid-2017 as a financial engineer and data scientist to contribute to the development of VariabL’s financial products and more generally to anything that has to do with Data and Machine Learning.

Alexis MASSERON

Software engineer

Alexis has a Telecommunications engineering degree and experience in software development.

He worked 2 years in the IoT field as a software engineer and as a tech lead, managing a team working on an IoT hubs platform, before discovering the blockchain technology.

He has been involved in the ethereum community since then, joined ASSETH (French Ethereum Association), co-founded the “The Block café” (a crypto-friendly coworking café in Lisbon) and joined our product team to work on what is going to become Variabl 2.0.
